OBITUARY: 
Arnold Grant Hill, 14-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Hill, well known residents of Independence, died at the Deaconess hospital in Salem on Thursday night of last week, spinal meningitis being the cause. A pupil in the eighth grade of the public school, he was taken ill about six weeks ago and a week later was taken to the Salem hospital. His trouble was not diagnosed as meningitis until a few days before the end. 
The funeral was held from the Presbyterian church Sunday afternoon, Dr H. Charles Dunsmore officiating and interment was made in the Pioneer cemetery near Rickreall. The services were attended by many friends of the young man and family, and there was a profusion of flowers. The pall bearers were: C.E. Burroughs, W.O. Scott, J.M. Vergin, B.L. Johnson. 
Arnold was born November 16, 1906, and was the oldest child. Besides his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Martha, aged 11, and Eleanor, five, and one brother, Orville, aged eight. 
Among those comiong here to attend the services were: William Knotts and family of Corvallis, Mrs. Mary Locke and family of Corvallis, Wendall Denlinger of OAC, Richard Wood and family of Dallas, William Nesmith and the Burch family of Rickreall. 
Sympathy is being extended to the sorrowing family.
