BIOGRAPHICAL (Source - Childress, Sarah, "David Goff" by Harriet McArthur, Polk County Oregon Pioneers (1927) via
www.genealogytrails.com/ore/polk):
"...Francis Marion Peltis was born in Howard county, Missouri, in 1828. He died at Rickreall in 1895. He came to Oregon with his parents and little sisters, Pauline and Caroline . He followed the more or less varying fortunes of a miner and prospector, more likely less successful fortune. He served in the Rogue River war in 1853 and in the Yakima war in 1855 and 1856. He was at the battles of Burnt River, Grand Ronde and Walla Walla. Much of his service was scouting duty, in which he was distinguished for his bravery and courage. At one time he was Lieutenant Colonel of the Polk County Militia. He went to Idaho in 1862 living in Florence and the Weiser country. He returned to Rickreall in 1886 and died there in 1895. He was never married."

DEATH CERTIFICATE:
OBITUARY:
Capt. F.M.P. Goff died of dropsy at the home of his nephew J.B. Nesmith in Rickreall Monday, Jan. 27. He had been ill for several months and his death was not unexpected. Capt. Goff was born in Howard co., Missouri, and was 67 years old at the time of his death. He came to Oregon in an early day and also spent some time in California during the mining excitement there. He served in the Cayuse and Yakima Indian wars, and in the latter, after serving his time in an Oregon company, was commissioned Captain of a company by Gov. Isaac I. Stevens of Washington Territory. The deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. David Goff, and a brother-in-law of the late Hon. J.W. Nesmith. He was never married. Captain Goff had a large number of friends in Polk county, and on Tuesday a long procession followed his remains to their last resting place in the Burch graveyard near Rickreall.
