DEATH CERTIFICATE:
OBITUARY:
Mrs Garlin Cohrs, widow of George F. Cohrs, died in a Portland hospital early Thursday morning. She had been in Portland for about a year; had a slight stroke of paralysis Wednesday; was taken to a hospital, and her condition was regarded as favorable until a second shock developed. Funeral services are to be held in the Smith-Baun chapel, Sunday. Mrs Cohrs was a daughter of the late Henry and Martha Hill, Oregon pioneers, and who figured so prominently in the earlier affairs of Independence, Mr Hill cutting a portion of his donation land claim into what is known as the newer part of the city, dedicating it as Henry Hill’s town of Independence. She was born here June 13, 1881; attended public school in Independence; was graduated from Oregon Agricultural college in 1900 and spent the following 10 years as a teacher. She was married to George W. Cohrs in 1910 and lived in Spokane until 1922, when Mr and Mrs Cohrs and their daughter, Constance, came to Independence and built a home on land she had inherited from her father, and the home had since been maintained here. Mrs Cohrs was a gifted, gracious woman. She was selected to unveil the Sacajawea statue in Portland in 1905, being regarded as peculiarly fitted for this honor in that she was the daughter of pioneers and an educated, gifted woman. Mr Cohrs passed away July 26, 1937. In addition to the daughter, Constance, Mrs Cohrs is survived by three brothers: L.R. Hill, Waldport; Homer and Verd Hill, Independence. Mrs Cohrs was a member of Adah chapter, Order of Eastern Star and a past president of the Woman’s club. She interested herself in civic affairs, and announcement of her death came as a shock to her family and to many friends in the community.
